I just had a survey completed on a Monterey 282 with twin volvo 5.0 GX engines and DP sterndrives. Both the surveyor and I noticed "notchy" stearing at low speeds of 5-10knts. Seemed like the steering was getting stuck at different points. Nothing you couldn't steer thru but still noticable. No problems at all at planing speed.
After close checking, the surveyor had 2 theories. One that the power steering pump was loosing presure. No way for him to check that without a pressure test which he was not equipped for. The other theory was that the oil was overfilled. He confirmed this on visual inspection and suggested some should be drainned and steering re-tried.
Your thought would be appreciated.
