Thefts from Dockside 500

Just an FYI. --

I was told earlier today that 17 boats in the yard(as of now) were broken into this past week at Dockside 500 in East Patchogue. Boats that were shrink wrapped were apparently the victims.

I'm hoping that being I didn't get a call from the marina directly that my (unwrapped) boat was passed by.
 
This is becoming epidemic on Long Island, check ebay for your respective units and try and catch this guy.
AYC got hit too I heard.
 
Why don't you ( who store in marinas ) remove your electronics....bring them home ???? Wouldn't it would be worth the time and effort not to go thru the expense and hassel. Just my thought.

P.S. if you use a metal zipper in your shrink wrap door.....I can show you how to electrify that !!!!. just kiddin :) :)
 
I bring my electronics home, not because I fear they will be stolen, but to protect them from the freezing weather.

To much of a pain in the butt to remove and re-install every year, and then where does it stop, TVs, DVD players, radios, etc, etc.

I also bring my electronics home,8 screws to take off dash panel.Also take home LCD tv's.I have heard freezing temps and lcd don't mix
 
I just take my stuff home with me. None of my stuff is flush mounted so it's easy to do. I guess it's a pain in the arse if your electronics are mounted into the dash. I wish they'd steal my tv and stereo. Would give me an excuse to buy new ones.
 
I went down there today. No damage to my boat. My main concern was that someone may have busted the sliders to get in to find out I didn't leave anything worth stealing on it.

No one was in the office - not even another person in the yard while I was there.

Funny......the theif doesn't think its a pain in the butt... :) :)

My boat is 25' from my back door....I have (4) motion spot lights...security cameras...my dog in the house......and I still bring my stuff in the house in the winter. I leave my TV's...DVD player and stereo in the cabin....but lock the door.

I would love to catch someone stealing something off my boat !!!!
 
My boat dealer also told me that they dont even lock their boats. Anything outside has electronics removed and if someone comes in during the winter, At least they wont bust the doors trying to get in to find nothing there. I too take everything home, does not take long. Otherwise what are they going to steal, a funny looking mattress?

Smart Don. Give them your address, what you leave in boat. What brand DVD player is that and how much is it worth?

I don't like banks, so I store my fortune under my forward vberth, I do keep a padlock on it with a combo that is hard to remember....I think it is 16-6-3, but in case I forget it's the same number as my registration so it's written on the outside of the boat.

I have toyed with this idea for as long as I have been boating and believe this is the way to go. The only problem I can see is the insurance company denying the claim because I did not make a reasonable attempt to secure the boat.

Damage to the boat is my only concern, getting new equipment certainly would not suck. I have also thought about leaving tools on the bridge with instructions on how to remove the equipment safely.:)

I have not checked my policy but am assuming that the deductable for theft is not the same as for damage (1% of the insured value).

Anyone with a colored dash... Im sure cringes at removing there electronics....

Mine have been removed twice for access to the inards of the dash... SCRATCHES i have many...

I think the thiefs are more careful .... Atleast they are when they steal my side view mirrors...

And I'm assuming the photo of your boat is recent and its a 2001 34' cruisers stored at the ancorage YC in Lindenhurst? Lots of information here as well!

About 5 weeks ago, South Shore Marina in Patchogue was also hit. Approximately 18 boats. If you were shrinkwrapped they cut a large hole even if you had a door. If your cabin door was locked, they busted thru it.
