TWIC Deadline is 9-25-2008

Don't know if this has already been discussed but here's some info.

The deadline to obtain the new Transportation Worker Indentification Crededtial is 9-25-2008 and enrollment is available now.

TWICs are tamper-resistant biometric credentials that will be issued to workers who require unescorted access to secure areas of ports, vessels, outer continental shelf facilities and all credentialed merchant mariners.

Eventually all your information and qualifications (i.e. Master 100 tons etc.) will be part of the TWIC and you will no longer get that piece of paper to frame.

You will not be able to renew unless you have this card. The cards will cost $132.50 each.

Enrollment for NYNJ began on 12-27-2007.

It is cheaper if you already have a Merchant Mariners license. I got a discount because of the license I hold. All you have to do is bring the license in with you when you get fingerprinted. They did not tell me that I will not get another paper license. My license will expire before the TWIC card will.
