I was told by a fiberglas repair guy that vinyl can be spray painted with a flexible epoxy that holds up well to cleaning and use. Anyone have any experience with this. It seems that it would be a savings over new vinyl seats.
I haven't heard of flexible epoxy for this use, but there is a vinyl spray dye with vinyl base that is in fairly common use. Duplicolor is one of several companies that offers it in spray cans at auto parts and hardware stores . http://www.duplicolor.com/products/vinyl.html
Dr.Vinyl and Leather Doctor I believe are two franchise outfits that apply the vinyl spray professionally.
I've read reports by poeple who have applied it or have had it done professionally and were very happy with the results, but the just one set of coaming bolsters I looked at that had been done by a pro did not look impressive at all ( looked like sprayed vinyl, not smooth) , so I opted to replace my boat's bolsters with new covers.
I have had awsome results with the vinyl paint.
I found the basic colors available at auto parts stores. Professional paint supply stores will have 20 or 30 different shades available, also in a can.
Used it on two white vinyl cushions that I thought were toast. Looked and felt as good as new and held up well for the next 4 yrs that I owned the boat. I used Tempo Paint.
