Hi guys,

I went to the lake today to install my new mooring cover. The boat has been sitting since October on a lift in a covered dock with the snap-in bow and cockpit covers installed. When i pulled the cockpit cover I was greeted by the staining in the attached picture. The stains are isolated to the area where the cockpit cover rests on the very back of the boat. I tried to clean this with 303 cleaner and also a magic eraser but nothing would touch it. Anybody know what would have caused this staining? Anybody have any ideas about what might clean it? Thanks in advance for your help.

Caused by bacteria. I painted mine. It was so long ago I can't remember what I used.

if the cover is a dark fabric it also might be from the fabric dye. Try some bleach.

The boat is a 2001 but new to me this season. I doubt it is the cover because it surely would have shown up during the season. On the Chaparral owners forum some have noted that they have had the same problem and it goes away as soon as the boat is in the sun for a little bit, so I'm hoping it won't be an issue next year. They also suggested using an ozone machine under the cover for a couple of days to kill any mold or other bacteria. Sounds like a good idea and I just might give it a try.

Before you put the cover back on it might be a good idea to leave a nice white beach towel under that section, it couldn't hurt.

Try using soft scrub. It has a very mild abrasive and bleach in it. I've used it over the years to clean up some very dirty fiberglass and vinyl.

Go to "semproducts(dot) com" and you will find the paint.

Can you leave them in the sun for a few days. A few years ago my daughter brought my bow rider to a marina near the beach that was basically deserted, and with no one around, various waterfowl decided to sit on the boat for an hour or two and crap all over it. After cleaning, the crap left orange-pink stains on the vinyl in spots. It just went away over time, I assume from the sun. Nothing would clean it off but it didn't end up being a problem.
