We have been out over a week in Long Island Sound. As Safe Harbor members, we get 12 free nights of transient dockage at other Safe Harbors. So far, we have used 10, and saved almost $3000!

First stop was Capri, we have not been here in 20 years. The dock staff were great, the docks are incredibly wide and clean. We go dinner from the s ask shop near the dock office, the food was very good.

Next, Bruce & Johnson's in Branford, one of our favorite stops. Stayed 3 days,do med to the Storny Creek brewery two times. Ate at The marina restaurant (Dockside) twice. Their food is outstanding! Great pool, nice picnic area and plenty of gas grills to use.

Tried to get a slip in Mystic, but they were completely booked, so we went to Essex Island marina for 3 nights. The town is coming back to life. Ate at The Black Seal and the Griswold Inn. Both were very good. There is a new restaurant in the Island, the menu looked good. Also a new restaurant next to Essex Boatworks, unfortunately, due to lack of staffing, they were closed the 3 days we were there.

Tried both Safe Harbors in Greenport, as well as Mitchell park, and none of them had a slip for us, so we decided to go to Pilot's Point. New restaurant here, that is very good. Ate dinner here two nights. Decided to stay another day, as thunderstorms are predicted. Diesel fuel is you or the price that it was last summer ($4.00/gallon). We get $.40/gallon discount, so it wasn't too bad.

Will head back to Capri tomorrow, then home on Monday.

Been a great trip, met up with a lot of friends from Northport

There used to be a good fish place near pilot's point on the other side of the road, creek side.

That would be the place. When we bought Freedom the transaction occured at Pilot's Point and we brought it home Easter weekend of 2000.

To be a Safe Harbor member, you have to keep your boat at a Safe Harbor marina, correct?

Safe Harbor has bought several marinas in my area, but so far, not the one where we keep our boat.

Correct, if you winter and summer with them, you get 12 free transient nights and $.40/gallon off fuel. If you just summer with them, you get 2 free transient nights and $.20/gallon off fuel.

Sounds like a great trip. We were at Essex last year and ate at the new restaurant, it was very good. Happy to hear things are comming back

we are at Castaways in Ocean City, since the boat was sick we chose a land vacation.

Thanks. Around here, most leases are annual leases.

Safe Harbor has new policies this year.

Unlimited transient dockage, limited to 3 nights per marina. No longer need to stay both winter and summer, so there is no longer an incentive to keep my boat at one during the winter. (A pretty stupid policy, IMHO). This seems to have made it much harder to get into other Safe Harbors, as many more boats are eligible.

Fuel at their cost - not sure how they determine that, but last weekend has was over $1/gallon cheaper for members (just gives you an idea of their mark-up!)

Make me miss keeping my boat @ Stirling Harbor- But no paying for dockage in the back yard is a winner too

Andy, you heading out east at all this summer?

Hey Mike

I have a buddy staying over sometime in Aug and we will most likely take a run to Mystic, Cuttyhunk & maybe Martha’s or Block.

As the boat is now @ home on the south shore of the Island- looks like we’ll take the Shinnecock and then head East/North- then flip a coin

Would love to sync up with you one day- even if I have to run up the Hudson!!

Be nice to see you. We are deciding whether to head out East in July or August

Let me know if/when & where and I’ll try ti hook up with guys!
