I'm considering buying a 1975 Carver Santa Cruz 28 foot and it has vinyl clad non-skin coating on the deck. is there a marine coatings that I can roll on to stickto it and change the color or do I need to you rip it up and lay down newif I can even find it to buy it? any help would be appreciated.

I see that no one has replied to I'll take a try.

If what you mean by "vinyl clad" is something put on as a large adhesive-backed sheet, I'd say see if you can remove it completely, although that may not be easy. A heat gun would certainly help.

Once up, you could prep the Gel Coat by cleaning it thoroughly and then apply a non-skid paint, of which there are many.

If this vinyl has been in place for many years. This could be nautalex. The glue has dried out. Use a multi tool, this should come up very easy.

Ron has it right. Carver used Nautalex as a deck covering in the mid to late 70's. It is still available-just google the name. You might want to consider using an Imron/Awlgrip paint instead of re-papering the deck for a permanent repair. There is anti-skid treatments that can be used with those paints to give you a non-skid surface. Kudos (or condolences) to you for even considering taking on such a challenge with that age of boat.
