I have a section of the seats right at the helm that always tends to get dirty b/c thats where we sit and drive. I have tried West Marine's Vinyl cleaner but doesn't help. Is there a better product or a collection of house hold items that will work. The vinyl is white.

Thank you in advance.

I use Starbright deck cleaner dilluted in a bucket of water (about 1 cup : 1 gal of water) with a magic eraser and then rinse well. Same for white bumpers.

Tilex should work (there are several kinds of Tilex, you want the one that's for mildew - white bottle I think), the mildew remover spray in boat stores too. It's all just bleach. With any of them, don't drip them on surrounding cloth surfaces because they will bleach the color out.

I had some spots on my vinyl I could not get out, tried everything.
For xmas someone got me one of the rotary cleaners advertised by Billly Mays, looks like a big electric toothbrush.
I used that and starbright heavy duty vinylcleaner/restorer and my seats look new.
I finished it off with some 303 protectant.
The little machine is pretty good but it does eat batteries. I used it on my nonskid too with some compound and it also did a great job.

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser followed by clean water.

Keep your vinyl covered with towels or such to keep them clean. I actually have a small rubberbacked throw rug on my seat. The main reason is to protect the vinyl from my dog, but keeps the seat nice and clean too.

Collinite fiberglass cleaner does wonders. Magic eraser is decent for lightly soiled vinyl.

SRQ, the best product I have ever seen for cleaning vinyl upholstery is Maguires Heavy Duty Vinyl and Rubber Cleaner. I use this with a nylon scrub brush. Amazing results even if you think they are clean after using other products. This is the only thing I use on the white vinyl on my boat. 14 years old and still the vinyl looks new.

Ditto what Doc Saracco said...I swear by the product...
Don't use chemicals or products that are not meant for vinyl..

I have used Star Brite Black Streak Remover with great results. I believe it is just a diluted Muriatic Acid, but could be wrong.

If the staining is where you sit and cleansers are not doing the trick, it may be mold(from bathing suit moisture) from the bottom of the vinyl, no cleanser will remove that.

Vinylex is the detailers choice. Mr. Clean Magic eraser does a good job( I admit Ive used it on tougher stains), but contains lye, most other cleansers can be caustic to the material. In general bleaches and there cousins might appear to clean the vinyl well, but cause drying of the material, doing more damage in the long run. Vinylex will clean and protect. When using a protectant after cleaning, avoid using silicone based products(Armor All).

yeah Wayne, That's one of the best boat cleaning products I've ever seen. I rank it right up there with Buff Magic.

Be careful with magic erasers, they can scuff the vinyl's finish if you rub too hard.

Crazy Klean works goods with a scrub brush.
