hello 1999 glastron gs 249 5.0GI,having a idle problem, when coming from higher rpms to idle engine idle drops, alomost stalls, but kick backs to 600rpm (dont think its gonna get better with age)does anyone know the correct code reader needed for my ECM?ty

Here's an old B/Ed thread in which the late, great Newport Dave explained how to make a code reader for next to nothing.
http://www.boatered.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=102187 .

But that gizmo only reads tripped codes, which is nice, but it does not act like an actual MEFI scan device which I believe you would be much better off with . I imagine your 1999 ignition is likely either MEFI-2 or 3 . (My 2003 blue MPI engines are MEFI-4.)

The Rinda Technologies' "TechMate Pro" ( or older TechMate or MercScan Tool if you can find a used one) handheld marine scan device , or Rinda's "Marine Diacom" software for laptops can scan all available parameters for your engine.

The Diacom sw also includes the extremely helpful supporting MEFI diagnostic manual on the sw CD, but I have seen it available for free online if you can find it.

OBD Diagnostics' "MEFI Scan & Tune" is another software scan is another option , without the manual. I don't know about VP , but Crusader factory techs use the Rinda scan devices & SW.
