I was working on my Volvo Penta DP-S drive this weekend. When I lifted the drive up to the trailer position I could see the exhaust bellows just sitting there in the transom plate area. It was connected to the transom with a clamp but it is not connected to the outdrive. Is this normal? Does the bellows mate up with the drive when lowered? The end of the bellows looks a little distorted like it has not been mating up correctly. I did look up the part online and the picture shows the clamp on the transom end and what looks like a snap ring on the drive end.

Do you have the accordian style bellows or is it just a straight tube? If accordian it should connect at drive, if tube, no it doesn't.

Sorry, it is a 2000 model year DP-S.
Yes it is the accordian type on there now. Is that the correct one for 2000?

Yes, the accordian one is correct. It inserts into the gimbal housing and is held in place with a c-clip.

Thanks
That would explain why it sounded funny during the transition from headway speed to plaining speed.

Hopefully getting a new clip on there won't be too difficult.

I would just replace it with the tube...then you never have to worry about it again.

The bellows looks good so I think I will get the clip and put it together. Are there any tricks to getting the clip in place. Does the end of the bellows go into the gimbal housing and the clip go on the inside of the bellows? Or does the bellows go on the outside with the clip on top?

End of bellows goes inside the gimbal housing. Clip goes inside of bellows. Snap ring pliers will help the installation.

Riverratt,
I have the snap ring pliers. It sounds like the only way to reconnect the bellows is pulling the drive to get at the clip.
