Has anyone had any luck removing what appears to be water (salt) stains on the tinted (maybe non-tinted also) glass windows. I seem to remember this subject being discussed in the past but can't find the thread.

Thanks,
Erich

Try straight vinegar. If that doesn't work use Whink rust remover or CLR.

FYI,

Someone on another site recommended Bar Tender's Friend saying it was better than vinegar, CLR, etc. I did a Google search and read some of the highly rated testamonials, so at $1.75 a can from Target it was worth trying. It took a bit of scrubbing but was worth the effort. All the windows look new on this 20 year old boat.

Be careful with Whink. Strong stuff, use it quickly and sparingly if you do go that route, Wipe it off quickly and keep rinsing with water on the windows and the boat while applying.

Correction! The product is Bar Keepers Fried and not Bar Tenders Friend.

I was so frustrated with the stains on my windows, and after trying everything, I took some Finesse It II and went gently with a buffer to the windows. No more stains.

Whink works the easiest. Apply with sponge, rub it around & hose it off. I keep hose running w/o nozzle on it to flood rinse area I've done. I do small areas at a time. If left on too long it will etch the glass; it contains Hydroflouric Acid which is used to etch glass. It is an excellent rust remover as well. Keep off aluminum surfaces.

I don't think I would be using Whink on my boat's windows. My marina gave me some to try on a rust stain. As I recall, the instructions on the container were very specific and there was a statement on the order of "If you don't plan on using this product as intended, don't use it at all."

An important concept I learned in maintenance - Whatever you do, do no harm.

In this case that means, better to leave the water stains than to permanently damage the glass.
