We are having to redo the stringers (I think that's what they are called, all the wood and foam on the hull) on a 1989 186 Eclipse.
I am trying to find the layout and measurements of them. I have googled 'til my eyes have googled. lol
Can anyone offer sites and advice on how to go about this? We have a friend that work's at a boat place and can cut the pieces for us if we had the exact dimensions. (The wood we have taken out was so rotten that we could not take any kind of measurements from them.)

We are first time boat owners and boat repairer's...LOL

TIA,
Sondra & Joe

ps. What kind of wood, resin and foam would be best to use?

Thankyou..I have been there...they don't offer the older years...I have placed a call to them but they are closed 'til 1/08...hopefully than someone will help. :)

Thank you,
Sondra

Just a thought, but maybe you could find another 186 Eclipse and measure its stringer dimensions.

Thanks for the advice..I did learn one thing on the Wellcraft site...title says boat is a 1989...yet our boat is a 187 Exclipse Xl...which shows it listed under 1990? LOL

Just use String Line,+ Measure what you Need........

The odds of getting a Dimension for Anybody for what you want,......
Are between Slim,+ None.......

Like Bill said. There is no such thing as square, straight or parallel on a boat. Get a level and level the boat as close as you can where you plan to do the work. Use 3/4" exterior plywood sealed in epoxy for all stringers and bulkheads. Glue them down to the hull with thicked epoxy. A circular saw and maybe a jigsaw should be all you need to make the cuts.

Old woodworkers proverb. "Mearusre twice, cut once". Still doesn't always work for me, though.:(

Thank you Bill and JT...I will pass this along to hubby..hopefully when he get's back in town next month he can give it a go....he has a lot to learn...( esp fiberglassing...he cut a hole in the boat with the jigsaw when he was cutting the stringers down) LOL

That's the Beauty of working with Composites,........

It's Easy to Fix the Screw-Ups................

And,.....
Unlike Finish Carpentry,....
Exact Measurements Aren't Nessesary,......
Pretty Close, but still Loose is the Prefect Fit, as you need Space for the Resins......

wouldn't it be a lot cheaper and less headaches just to buy another eclipse?
