Anyone know where to find this paint, other than a Cat Dealer? Our dealer in Stockton is
out, I will call another one in the area, but curious as to other sources.

I paid a gentleman to paint my engines. Two days prepping, one day painting.

He used CAT "Power Module White Paint High Gloss Aerosol 243-5451 paint. 6 cans on two engines.

I know zero about painting boat engines (why do I think about 500 guys are rolling on the floor laughing... :) He said he had painted several engines and I said fine. He set a price and we picked a time.

He said after cleaning the engines, sanding, etc. that he did not need a primer. I am disappointed the paint did not cover blemishes, spots, etc. It is like the paint is transparent. He offered to come back to touch those places up.

I thought if I got a few cans, got some suggestions here, I could do it. He said not to use steel wool, get some 400 grain sandpaper, take it down to bare metal, put on a coat of primer, then paint those areas again. It makes me wonder why he didn't do that to begin with.

There is overspray on some rubber hoses? I think acetone would take the paint off, but I am not sure what it would do to the hose. What would you use? The bilge is fiberglas, I could use acetone there couldn't I?

Any suggestions appreciated.

It is very difficult to hide dark areas with white paint. A grey primer would be my suggestion. Oil or solvent-based stains have a tendency of seeping through the topcoat as well. Oil based killz or alcohol based primer is in order if that is the problem and it cant be eliminated by cleaning.

Thanks Bruce...I looked for Kilz and did not find anyone carrying it. I looked at all the major auto parts, West Marine, Boat Fix (I hope I didn't miss it here or Les will shoot me),
and so on.

Alcohol based primer? I will look for that also, thanks.

Kilz can be found at your local Lowes, Home Depot, or local paint store.

I would think that the CAT paint would have to be bought from a CAT dealer.

I asked for it at Lowes and they said they did not carry it. I can try Home Depot.
