WHERE TO GO ON THE GREAT SOUTH BAY

Besides the obvious places to go to whre are cool places to go on the great south bay where we can just throw ancor and hang out.

any suggestions
 
+1 on the Connetquot river - especially during the week. If you have a dink there's a pretty large canal system to explore.
 
Also add Garbage (Coast Guard) Cove, Hemlock Cove, Zach's Bay. Careful going into Zach's.......use the west entrance and watch the DF. Don't know your homeport or how far you want to travel........that might help people suggest more places. I love the Connectquot but it's a bit of a ride for me just for the day.
 
Yes....I agree with Barbara..... Hemlock #1... Garbage #2... great spots to anchor out day or night....and R & R.

Where do you keep your boat and what part of the GSB do you mainly boat in? Aside from the above, To the west is Zachs Bay and Short Beach and east is Sore Thumb.

Funny enough im on the Connetquot River.

Right by the RiverSide Cafe.

We got there late in the season and the few times we went out we went to the Bay.

If we went up the river there are things to see and do??
 
The water gets real skinny once you round the corner after the snapper inn. I draw 18" and usually bump bottom as I head up towards the collage. I'm sure the boat owners who keep their boats up the river know exactly were the deeper water is. What size boat do you have?

Its 32 feet...

I guess i would have to go with someone who knows the water.. or just wing it myself..

Like Adam said, I wouldn't go too far past Snapper Inn unless I knew the river. We've anchored out by Snapper Inn and took the dinghy down the river and around the back canals........comes back out around Snapper Inn! Nice way to spend an afternoon.
 
Has anyone been to the Riverside Resturant by boat ???? How was it ?? We've stayed at Timber Point Marina a few times ( on a Friday night ) and it always looked crowded over at the Riverside. We were tempted to dink across...but never did.
 
Don, I've heard Riverside is very good. Friends of mine actually like it better than Snapper Inn. I've been to Snapper but not to Riverside so it's hearsay.
 
When I had a 26' with an I/O I took it all the way up the Connetquot River once. The deeper water is pretty much right along the shore near the houses and docked boats, you can't stray too far towards the middle. It took about an hour to get up and back with the no wake zone. I wouldn't do the trip with a 32' inboard boat, but it would be a nice trip by dinghy.
 
It appears to have plenty of docking...right in front. Maybe this season from Timber Point.... we'll take the dinghy over to the Riverview ...then take a ride up the river.
We've been to the Snapper Inn.....it was alright.
 
Don, I didn't realize you could dock at Timber Point. I thought it was all private there. That's where we first went to look at that Adventure Craft houseboat we bought. Do you know if it's still there? I know the woman's husband died but she said she was gonna keep the boat............just curious if you've seen it around when you're out that way. As for the Connectquot and Riverside, we are DETERMINED to take our Trophy out there for an overnight. Not quite as comfy as other boats we've had for overnight but it has a head, we have a free standing Origo alcohol stove and we've done it before when we used to have the same model years ago (we were just a little younger that's all <G>). A little like camping but do-able! Have to remember how to get there too!
 
Barbara...yes.... there are about 4 transient slips at Timber Point....but please don't tell anyone. If I remember right....the Adventure Craft was there last season. It's on the end of west side private docks. Didn't look like it was used much.
 
Yep, that's where it was when I went to see it before we bought ours. Wonder if the same woman owns it. Guess I'll have to take a ride out this summer and check it out! And don't worry............won't tell anyone about those slips either :)

Plus many restaurants.
Last year I made the trip to TJ's at night about 7 times, all on my company. My favorite place to take out of town guests for dinner. I pay gas, they pay for food!

Does anyone know status of TJ's this year?
 
If you want resturants.....Freeports....Nautical Mile ( woodcleft canal ) can't be beat ! A bit of a ride..... but a nice place to spend the day.
 
Like Don said , Freeports just added a ton of dockage... nice area to walk around... Mini golf.. etc...

Great food destination....

We have been up the river ( conetquat ) in the 44.. gets a little sandy.... but where around here doesnt ???

The Snapper was was cool... had a band... out on the lawn... we ate outside...

To be honest ... we got alittle lost... Couldnt Find the boat at the end of the nite...

thats another story... and it just wasnt us ... another couple was ironically in the same boat.. lol....

ok enough that... walters going to have some fun im sure... just being honest..
