There's a product called Crystal View that is used to restore headlight lenses, which are now predominately plastic. It works very well. You can find it at Advance Auto stores and Walmart to name a couple. About $20.00/pkg...does two headlights, so you may need more depending on the area size.

The only thing you can do with scratched glass is replace it. I had to replace all of the glass on our old boat (13 pieces) but it made a huge improvement in the way it looked.

Meguiars makes several plastic cleaners and polishers that work well on clear plastics. I've used Meguiars #10 Clear Plastic Polish and #17 Plastic Cleaner to keep polycarbonate headlights looking like new. Works great on most clear plastics. Meguiars PlastX is very good, too.

Well, if it's glass your options are limited. Very fine scratches, the kind that appear as a general haze, can be polished. Deep scratches or gouges cannot. Years ago (like 40) the polishing agent was diamond dust. I did this on car windshields. We mixed it into a slurry with water and used a very dense rubber-like disc on a slow rotary buffer. Today the preferred polishing compound is cerium oxide - the same stuff used to polish lenses, and it can be used with a rotary polisher or an orbital polisher. It takes a lot of time and patience - figure a couple of hours to do an average size auto windshield. I just did a quick Google search -- polishing glass windshield -- and got 466,000 hits. The first page shows all kinds of kits and polishes and cerium oxide. Finding useful references should be easy.

The question that should be on your mind is how did the glass get scratched in the first place.

If they're polycarbonate, Flitz works wonderfully.

I tried Flitz and I was not impressed. It did not seem to take anything out.

Years ago I polished the windshield of my old Mustang with Pepsident (sp?) tooth paste and a drill with a wool pad on it. It took off some of the minor haze like scratches, smelled nice too.
