Everytime I take a trip I am cruising in crap!

High Ocean and North Wind, can't get any worse.
Can't do ocean.
Can't do bay since North wind pushes the water out of the bay and will mean Moriches will have no water!!

SAT
NE winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts up to 35 kt. Seas 5 to
8 ft, building to 7 to 10 ft in the afternoon. Rain likely. Vsby
1 to 3 nm in the morning.

This sucks!

Today ain't bad, thunderstorms later.
It's Saturday that is messing it up.
Suppose to leave Sunday

Haven't headed east along the south shore with this boat yet. Don't want to deal with running inside on shallow bays if the ocean is snotty. I prefer planning my trips to destinations west and through the city. Worst case scenario you have to duck in or out of East Rockaway and run well marked Reynolds Channel. It's only about 8 miles from East Rockaway inlet to Breezy Point which makes tough ocean conditions a little more bearable.
I give up the beach destinations that way, but gain much nicer scenery and deeper water heading north up the Hudson or east in the Sound.
My wife isn't a beach person anyway.
If I were renting a slip for the season I think moving the boat to the North Shore would be a no brainer for us.

Weather determines Whether we enjoy boating!

I'm just glad you didn't break down, run aground, get lost, get sick or be injured.

Down here in FL, it is HOT. How Hot? The Weeds are Wilting! Young kids want to pull anchor and go home!

Dave, northeast winds usually mean higher than normal tides. Sunday might be a good day for running inside.

John,
I thought North wind keeps the water from coming in the inlets?
Are you saying northeast pushes it in? How?
We are gonna try running outside Sunday, it looks like the seas are diminishing and winds too!
With that said if you have any kind of swell with a north wind we will have breakers in inlet!

North and North West winds lead to low tides, anything with an easterly component will cause higher than normal tides. Tide is very high right now and still coming up. I think with NE winds it's generally storm related and the full circulation of the winds is pushing water into the whole area. I know intuitively you would expect NE to push it out of the bay.

If you go outside I would wait till after 11am to get to the inlet. Outgoing tide and the remaining ocean swells from this will make the inlet bad in the morning until the current starts coming in.

Leaving around 12:30 and will see.
If high tide and ocean rough will go inside.
High in Moriches is 2:00

You have got to love TowBoat Moriches. Offshore conditions were not great. Went inshore and with the guidance of TowBoat leading us it was a no brainer. We met at bouy 15 and were lead south across the face of the inlet up to the unmarked NE passage towards Havens Pt. They then led us back to bouy 30 so we could continue our eastern transit. I draw 4.5 feet and the skinniest water I saw was briefly 6.5 feet. TowBoat Moriches has my support.

Though they said 6 footers in ocean it was a swell and not bad. Boat rolled over them nicely.
We started inside but bailed outside when inlet showed a smooth ocean.

Glad you had a nice run. I'm a lot slower and frankly the tour was interesting.
