I always heard that Zachs was polluted but did not belive it was that bad until todays Newsday article. i always figured that since there was a public beach there run by the town that it would be safe. I have spent the last 3 years there, probably every other weekend during the hot months. I wonder if it would be possible to start a class action law suit against the county to get this cleaned up. Anyone have any suggestions. This is the perfect spot that is protected to take young children. Anyone advice any other spots for the summer that you can raft up or beach that is as protected from other boats and current.

Alka.....There's always Hemlock & Garbage cove...as far as a protected spot to raft up and hang out.
But who knows if there even safe at this point .

I was really surprised when I read this article. With the amount of people that swim in those waters you would have thought that at least they would have closed the public beach at Zachs on the bay side. I am not sure where hemlock cove is. We sometimes go to short beach with the kids but the bottom is pure muck and there is a strong current as well as boat wash. Oh well might have to move to the North Shore or further out East from Freeport.

I told this story years ago... I was in Engineers office and they had the original plans of the Jones beach theater renovation on the wall. IT clearly showed the toilets dumping into the bay...

There Theory behind it was if they look at the yearly DRAINAGE from the theater it was below some regulation level. THEY didnt take into acct the thing is closed 8 months out of the year.

Now I know why the sand smelled so bad when the kids were digging. I just thought it was a clam die off and they were rotting.

Just think of all the extra poop from "Trump on The Ocean" !!!!
