Are they visible or not worth the hassle?
Even floating out in state channel?
we can do a giant boatered raft up.

Went last year view is great but you need to get into Zachs its crazy in the state channel, the Captree fishing fleet stays in the channel.. Going tomorrow leaving at 2 going to barbecue. After the show you need to wait for traffic to thin out but also watch out for people running your anchor line over. Hectic yes, but show is good..

We went last year and the view was amazing. Bow was pointed southwest. View of Jones Beach Fireworks was unobstructed, and it was clear enough out that we could look over our shoulders and see the fireworks going off from Merrick to Babylon.
It was well worth going.
We had a BBQ that day and didn't leave the dock until about an hour before it started. Zachs was full. We dropped the hook in the State Channel just north of where the east opening is. About where you would make the right turn if you were heading west. We wound up anchored among the Captree Fleet, but it was fine.
I sold my boat last month, but if the weather holds out tonight we may go again tonight in my kids 18' bowrider. It has to be flat with no threat of rain for me to convince my wife to go on the little boat.

What **** nite it turned out to be ! Forecast blown !

I would of hated to be in Zacks. We came back from sailors with a strong southwest wind. I can only imagine the Sh*t show in Zacks!
Plus add the fact it was cold, dark and wet!

We saw lots of boat leaving to head out last night.

I think this year I have seen more boats being towed than ever before. I bet our seatow rates go up next year!

We had some awesome firework shows right in our marina, well not in the marina, but nearby. One show by Chateur la mer was pretty amazing. Couldn't tell if it was private or someplace else.

Funny thing with the forecast is that a couple people were asking me Sunday about going to see fireworks on the 4th and I was looking on accuweather and it was showing rain beginning at 9pm. At the time I discouraged the idea based on the forecast but then I saw a couple other forecasts that said it wouldn't rain till after midnight so we made plans to go. Sure enough it started raining at exactly 9pm! I anchored just south of the east/west channel off of Copiague since there seemed to be quite a bit of fireworks going on and it turned out great. 10 minutes from my canal (going slow), hardly any boat traffic, and the backyard shows lasted a lot longer than the Jones Beach show we could see in the distance. People over there went all out, especially one house right on the bay and a couple others nearby. We barely even noticed the rain, with the wind blowing from the bow we stayed dry in the cockpit. It wasn't till I was hauling the anchor at about 10:30 that it started pouring.

john, a good friend of mine was the all out show on east dr in Copiague. it's an annual thing

I went to a bbq on west drive last year and was impressed by how much of a show the neighbors put on. I wasn't sure there was a good spot to anchor there so was originally going to head east but worked out great where I went.

We were getting ready to get in the car and head to the dock at 7:00 PM when the kids called us and told us to forget it, the weather didn't look promising. My daughter's boyfriend was in Zach's with his family, but they left early before dark because the weather was crappy.
