Pascal, thank you very much for letting us boat vicariously through you and your web cam. I have it on my desktop all day long, and everyone wants to hear the story behind it when they come in. It gets us talking about boating, and I LOVE IT!

Btw, in most latest release browsers, including Firefox 3 Beta, you can press Ctrl +, multiple times to zoom in. You can make Pascal's helm cam fill the screen. Not that you would want to do that while the cam is pointed at him.

aperbag]Pascal, for what's ahead of you, we went outside from St Catherine's (Walburg Creek, great anchorage) to Wassaw Sound to tuck into Thunderbolt. Avoids Hell Gate and some other sketchy stuff. We decided to stay inside because we like a lot of the scenery and anchorages from Savannah to Myrtle Beach (other than the Rockpile), especially the Waccamaw River which is just gorgeous this time of year. Then outside from Little River to Southport which avoids the funky Sunset Beach pontoon bridge, plus Shallotte Inlet and Lockwood's Folly. Then outside again at Masonboro (short cut around Frying Pan Shoals ) to Morehead City. Thence inside to New Bern, where I write this from our old slip at Bridgepointe Marina. Your plan avoids Little Mud River, which was certainly passable at a 5 foot high tide with no problem, but not with much less than that.
A number of the above inlets are not considered "Class A" but all were easily navigable with appropriate care. Frankly we did most of them for a change of pace around areas of no particular scenic interest (or shoaling issues a la Lockwood's), since we are not in any kind of a hurry. The journey being the destination, if you will. All this done as you probably know, on a Hatteras 56MY. stabilized.
Oh diesel was $4.09 at Brunswick Landing, $3.88 at Osprey Marina on the Waccamaw near Myrtle Beach (might be tough to get the 70 footer in there, but not impossible, very nice staff) but all of Myrtle Beach is pretty competitive on fuel. Southport Marina (great stop) is $4.09) The sign at New River Marina, NC was $3.69 I think, they are known for good prices but I didn't stop, having been topped off at Osprey.
Will be interested in your opinion of the Johnson, which has always been kind of a mystery brand to me.

PS: Paul, my I-Mac G5 would only open it with a kmz extension, I tried it first with a plain kml.

so far so good... we made it to Cocoa Village Marina around 6pm after an 11 hours run.
I'm really impressed with this boat and you guys know how picky i can be. The Johnson 70 is the final version of the Hi Tech line, started in the 80s, which they refined over the years. When a builder refines a design over many years, usually they really get it right, and in this case they did. For instance, I can't believe how well the boat tracks... in calm waters, it tracks straight with no steering input like if it was on autopilot.
I must say that the enclosed flybridge is nice... as you can see on the pictures! Even here in the So Fl sun, the air is keeping it cold and the view is nice. Incredibly easy to dock it from up there as I can see the sides... looking aft, with the door open, I can even see the swim platform port corner, although teh boat has a set of controls on the aft deck for backing in.
Tomorrow we're staying inside to St Augustine, I was considering avoiding Ponce / New Smyrna but going out thru canaveral adds about 20 miles altogether. The latest info on the ICW by Ponce Inlet is pretty good, we even called both TBUS and STow for last minute local knowledge.
We're going to get going early tomorrow, like right before sunrise to hit Ponce on the 10:30/11:00 high tide.

We found the listing for that boat and saw some pics and the asking price. Very nice vessel. Sorry we missed you today as you went through St. Lucie/Stuart. So close, yet so far! However, I'm going to put my Honda 50's up against those big Cats you've got and I promise you we'll beat you. We'll be in MD by Friday. Well, it won't be the 50's that beat yoou, it'll be 7.3l diesel in the Excursion and i95 that we'll be hauling the boat up. At least we can do 60mph on the highway

I called TB US coming into New Smyrna and the guy was extremely helpful. Take Sheepshead Cut, not the ICW. You gonna keep Red 18 close to you coming around the first left turn. Make sure to call the dredge Wilco as you come up to them; when we went through they wanted you right up next to them on your starboard side; but call them, they are characters. Then you tip toe through the buoys. No problema, but a sailboat behind us got a little loosey goosey and tasted sand briefly. As always a positive tide trend is your friend. The bad news is the ICW from there to St A is dullsville.
My timing made going outside from Ponce to St A impractical, otherwise that's what I'd do next time. Both inlets were useable when we went by. We like the area north of St A, especially the Pine Island anchorage, so we kept in for that and again, timing.
Oh, tomorrow when you come out of Haulover Canal and make your left, hug the greens a little. You'll note a nun placed seemingly in the middle of the channel a little further up: honor it!; must be where another forum member snagged his prop..
