I spent 5 years there in the Navy, I've seen enough of it anyway.

Thanks Pascal, It was north of the Albemarle Sound I couldn't recall; we had gone straight from the free dock at Great Bridge to Alligator River. I'll look it up on GE, but if you have the Lat/Lon handy of your anchorage I'd much appreciate it. I was tentatively aiming for the spot just north of Buck Island.

100's of great anchorages on the Chesapeake; we anchored off Oxford, then Fishing Bay on the way down..

Redoing our plan, as the weather here in New Bern and environs is lousy today (I avoid doing thunderstorms when Pleasure Boating) so we are leaving tomorrow and still trying to make Baltimore at our preferred slow pace by next Friday or Saturday.
 
Looks like Pascal will be hitting some weather today. If you look at GE and add weather to it looks like strong storms to whe west.

the anchorage north of buck island is a little tight. we were fine on the south side.
2 or 3 miles south, just off teh sound is Broad Creek on the west side which would provide better shelter in westerly winds.

we got underway just before 6... apporahcing the north landing bridge right now. We;re booked at Annapolis Yacht basin for Sat. night.

shooting for somewhere near the mouth of the potomac this evening...

Tanq. teh KML file needs to be open in GE or pasted in the search field of google maps.

I missed the last two days due to business travel, has the boat been out in the ocean yet? Everytime I've looked it's been in the ditch.
 
Pascal is passing the Naval SHipyard in Norfolk at 1:00 PM today. HE should be out in the lower Chesapeake in the next half hour and will then get a little bit of weather. Here is today's forcast for the area he will be passing though.

He should have following winds as he comes north up the bay but he also have a south flowing tide up to 1 knot so he will have wind against tide that may put up a steep chop up to 3 feet. He should not notice much with a 70 footer but it would not be nice in a bowrider. Current conditions is 16 knots from SW with gusts to 19 knots. He may need a well protected anchorage tonight as there is a possibility of gusts to 25 knots.

going thru Norfolk was a treat!!! anybody knows which aircraft carrier is docked at the entrance? big!!! Notice to marines included warning of catapult testing on the GHBush, i wonder if that was it. will post pictures later...

Scott... we went outside from St Augustine to St Simmons GA, otherwise we've run the ditch. it's not much longer and the scenery is nicer, very enjoyable and i fail to see what the big deal is depthwise, it's really not that bad even with 6+' draft.
 
Pascal, ya gotta love all them bridges today huh? Every time I looked you were waiting for one. Last one or so took forever to open. Keep it safe.
 
I'll be on Kent Island Wednesday night but it looks like you'll be well past there by then. Shame, I would have loved to hook-up with you guys somewhere near Annapolis. Let me know if you are looking for a slip in the Upper Bay and I'll try to point you in the right direction.

It is now 19:10. Maybe they had a change of plans. I think they may be anchoring for the night.
 
I think he had a problem getting into Deltaville with a 6 foot draft and may have even gone aground for a short time. He is currently on a heading for Windmill Point Marina on the north shore. This marina has recently been renovated and reopened, and the channel into it has been dredged.
With the wind from the NW tonight it might be a better bet, as the slip on the floating dock at Regatta Point would have been open to a 2 mile fetch open to the NW.
He might have been better off going for an anchorage in Fishing Bay on the Piankatank that would have been quite snug in the current weather conditions.
 
I worked at home today and kept watching all day. The view was great in the river and canals. You will be passing relativity close to my boat as I keep in the Northeast River in the upper Chesapeake. Thank you for the view from the web cam. Also I have been following on the Google earth map. Seem it tracked this morning then stopped and then picked up again about 4. Still watching.

Looks like a very long day for them if they left before 6AM as noted yesterday!

19:35 and it is raining. Or is that wind blown spray?
 
Well I was wrong he is now leaving the Rapahannock and may be heading further up the bay.
If he is looking at this and want to get the lower Potomac tonight he could head for Horseshoe bay on the St. Mary's River. The channels into the river and the anchorage are wide and easy to follow on a chart plotter. Most markers are lighted as well. Horseshoe Bay is well protected and deep almost to the shore. He could make it in about 3 hours from where he is now.
 
The George H Bush is berthed over at Newport News Shipbuilding and you would not have passed that today. It's at the mouth of the James River. I'm not sure which carriers are in port at Norfolk, but it is real impressive when there are 2 or 3 of them sitting there. We used to be able to fish right underneath of them (rockfish) but they will shoot you now if you even look like you want to get next to them.
 
Looks like a little nasty weather ... helm cam looks like it fell down!!
