I hate to be wrong but this might be worth at least having a look.
I've been watching your swing and unless I'm mistaken (and I probably am) it seems like you're drifting to Starboard. Is it possible that the weight of that Boat has pulled the mooring loose and that you might possibly be dragging it?
 
Pascal, send me an email if you get in a bind. I'll be working on the boat in Warwick after 10am and can head down to Newport. It's a small state. I could even pick it up on the way to save time. I think 50gal of oil will fit in the forester :)

Also if you are near the mansions, make sure you walk some of cliff walk. It's in between the mansions and the ocean. It is stunning.

When do you plan on departing? The weekend weather looks great!
 
Was that a little to close? I'm referring to the Boat that just passed in front of them at about 5:03 or so. Seems like there was alot of room for them to have passed so close. Oh well.....Probably...."No big deal" LOL
 
Walshie... yep.. these big cats take 90 qts of oil!

I really enjoy being on a mooring (or anchored out), the view is better, more privacy and we got to test the new inverter and battery bank i installed before leaving. also, at $40 a day vs... $3 a foot, it's cheaper.

we're going to go around cuttyhunk, then the Vineyard sound and NTK. leaving at first light on sat.

ITK... no need to appologize!! i've asked NApa about a delivery, they dind't think they could do it. will check again tomorrow... or will get a cab.

Scott, I should be able to find a way... i'll keep your offer in mind though. how far is Warwick?

Tanq. this is one of the BIG moorings in the harbor, i think it can handle us. havnet' moved a bit, we're just swinging.
 
Hey, doesn't it seem like someone should be close enough to Newport to get there and give Pascal a ride to the store for oil? For all the advice, and entertainment we've been given the past 2 weeks, there has to be an RO within shouting distance. Perhaps a separate thread would help - OK, done...not everyone is reading the details here possibly. I blew out a spark plug in Newport 4 years ago but boaters around me were real helpful.

The boat yard where I keep my boat for the winter is completing the commissioning in the am. I will be bringing the boat to Newport tomorrow and should be there by 1:00 or 2:00 in the afternoon. I have a slip at Goat Island Marina which is right where you are moored. My wife will be coming down with the car to get me and I would be glad to take you wherever you need to go if you still have a need.

Thanks for sharing this great trip with us. I have really enjoyed it and hope to make a similar journey one day.
 
That's always a challenge. We have a local shop that heats the garage with the stuff and they take if for free. But we only have about 15 gallons and bring it in 5 gallon pails. 90 gallons is tougher because you might have to piece meal the deal.

I have been around this board for a long time, and I can honestly say that I have never enjoyed a thread any more than this one! Follwing the travel on Google and the helmcam has really been a shared adventure for all of us RO's. I really hate that it's getting near the end!

The helm cam is beautiful this evening with the lighted bridge in the background! The weather should be much improved tomorrow.

Newport is a great place! we've been drooling at boats all day... there are some great looking boats around here... the Museum is closed and the Restoration institute is partially under construction, all we saw were a few woodies in the yard, donated awaiting restoration.

the rain stopped and it cleared up but still VERY cold!!!
 
Pascal, Warwick is about 30 minutes away (45 by boat :) ) I'm happy to make the trip. Send me an email as it will go to my blackberry. The local wholesale clubs carry some weights of rotella as well. Let me know the weight and I may be able to pick some up and make a run down. I'm just spending the day waxing the boat anyway, a break won't hurt.

I agree this has been the most enjoyable thread I've seen. It's funny to see it in "my neck of the woods" so to speak. I love Newport harbor, makes for a nice cruise looking at all the "big boats"

Can you picture Pascal hailing a cab at the front door of NAPA with ten pails of oil asking to be taken to the marina? Then when the cab driver tells him he's insane, his reply being "Why not? It's No Big Deal"? I'm trying to picture the dinghy with the oil pails....where will I sit? Which brings me to the next question: How long will I live if I get tossed overboard with the first wake? I dare not question the captain. Can't wait to see how he's going to pull this one off!

I'm looking at the big bright moon over the aft deck. I will not object to the cold anymore. I think I'm used to it. The beauty of the sailboats around has warmed my bones. I feel so patriotic here.
