Dave, did you finalize your trip during July 4?

I'm starting to put together the summer trip plans and was thinking of joining up with everyone in Mystic if you guys are going to be there over the 4th.

Not sure yet. Looks like the week is falling apart becuase of people's work.
May consider week before or another week.

This is why I hate being the planner!

As soon as I have firm dates, I will let you know.

Dave, I know what you mean, that is why I never plan for others. My policy is to make my own plans, then tell others what they are. IF they can make it, fine, if not, I'm on my own - which is fine, too.

I hear ya, but I hate boating alone. I prefer to have a wingman in case something goes wrong.

so do I, but sometimes we just gotta go by ourselves.

Hoefully, we'll meet up with you at some point, when you know your itinerary, post it here.

I used to be the planner myself but I now do the same as Hogan.

These are my plans and here is where I will be when.

I'll post my trip plans when I firm them up as well.

Anyone go out to RIVERHEAD in AUGUST???

WE Jump from there to norht shore places...

ITs different...

Rob

Anyone going to West Hampton ( town ) Marina for July 4th week ?????

What weekend is 7/4, before or after?
I can't do both now.

Dave,
If you want to do the friday before, ok with me....

Walter

Guys the town Marina is just past the draw bridge correct?

Yes i know nice boating equitique... But u know what im talking about...

Rob

No, I found out the admiral can't go that week. She can't miss a whole week of work cause she is out the next week to.
So I can only do part of that week and I want to find another week.

How far is it from the Sinnecock Canal?

We have never been threw the Canal, hell, never been to the south shore except to get my 41PC years ago and then I took it around via NYC, so maybe its time

How long to get threw the canal and is it a big deal?

Rob..... Yes it's past the draw bridge on the NORTH side (near SS3 Westhampton ) Not the bath and tennis on the south side.

Dave.....it's close( my opinion ) enough.....that you can bring the boat...and leave it there.....and your wife can commute by car. We've done that once before.

Andy......... not sure of the actual distance from the S/C ....if I remember correct....about an hour ????. But the 5X5 is worth the trip. Its a sight to see.

Andy, I don't know what "5X" is either.

The Shinnecock canal is one lock, the water drops/rises about a foot or two, it is very easy. With your boat, you would want to get out in the ocean as soon as possible after going through, there are some pretty shallow spots on the inside that are not well marked.

Getting to the canal is easy, just head in towards the Peconic bays and follow your charts.

Don,
Let me know the dates of that, cause that may work. The other idea was to go to watch hill and leave a car at the ferry. She could then go back to work. Lets do a boatered get together there or watch hill.

The Canal is less than a hour from Westhampton and it's probably not a bad trip for Andy. Further west than westhampton he would have to deal with the very skinny water in Moriches. The canal is easy, no issues.

how often does the locks open?
I guess from Westhampton is a 2 hr run from greenport

The 5X5........ is a 5 mile stretch of canal (approx. 100' to 150' wide ) where Long Island and Fire Island come that close....where you must go 5 MPH. Thus the 5X5 zone. The sight is going thru the back yards and front yards of MULTI-MILLION dollar homes.....and see how the upper crust lives.

Its a nice ride........

Dave ..... I plan to call this week....and check availability.....I'll let you know.
