Shutdown

These are the people in the Military that matter most in my opinion:
"On Monday, the Senate approved the House's plan to make sure military personnel - as well as the contractors and civilian personnel that directly support them - will be paid in the event of a shutdown. President Barack Obama signed the measure late Monday night."
It will be interesting to see how many people in the Pentagon who get covered under this Umbrella. Unfortunately "they" are the ones who decide who is essential.
How profound was my father who said "too many chiefs and not enough Indians"
Unfortunately things are never as they seem or as reported to us. What cuts did the Pentagon take during the sequester?

Our lake is a Core lake and all non esential Core related facillities are shut down, however the lake is open for anyone who wishes to go out on it.
We need to put all politics aside and keep our Government open, pay those bills we as a Nation have commited to and resolve all those "other" issues through the normal political process (as screwed up as it has become).

Well I’m one of the guys that got furloughed. The ironic part is I was in Washington DC when I go the word. I was scheduled for a tour of the Capitol on Oct 1. Well that was cancelled. I was walking around the mall at the Vietnam memorial and they were starting to put the fences up but waiting as a number of people were at the memorial with all the other buildings and museums closed. The hotel I was staying at the people were leaving in a large number because they couldn’t do business or if visiting nothing was open. Time we tell, but DC was losing 200 million a day in lost revenues.

Sea Bitt, sorry to hear that.
I am confused to understand the strategy of fencing off things like the Memorials that are sort of in public areas anyway.
Sounds vindictive to me and would backfire except the MSM will not report such stupid decisions.
It costs more to fence off than to just leave open.
The Parks commission just completed an expensive (not publicized) program to install solar panels on the building in the White house grounds. That defines the priority while the WH tours for school children was cancelled.

Well said.

Many published reports and interviews now prove that the overall instructions given to the troops were to cause as much inconvenience as possible so as to get as much media attention as possible. A real nasty bunch of SOBs are running things the "Chicago Way".

Remember this administration motto... "Do not let a crisis go to waste"

It is despicable, I hope the public will finally realize what is going on as the list of tyrannical maximum hurt closure is growing. Yesterday the operator of dozens of facilities in various parks, completely privately funded, said they had been ordered to shut down operations even though it had never happened in prior shutdown. That includes canceling weddings planned for this week end...

All guide and fishing trips in biscayne a national park have been shutdown, if this drags on, I wouldn't be surprised if the NPS cancels Columbus Day regatta as well

But With the MSM brainwashing the populace about republicans holding the nation hostage, I doubt the real motives will come out. Will they hear that the house has been passing funding bills for various departments which end up sitting in the senate? I doubt it

Piecemeal politics. It's GOP posturing. "send this to the senate, it'll make us look less stupid".

Just put it (clean with no crap attached) up for an up or down vote in the House and it would probably pass and if not at least we would have a very clear picture of who wants to shut the Government down or not.

how can this be so surprising to progressives? the legislation was passed entirely along party lines, no middle ground. it had to be "passed before it could be read". one of the most radical changes the country has seen in many decades and it's been rammed through the process.

the hypocrisy of the left is incredible. after nearly having seizures of B-B-B-Bush we've gone a complete 180 degrees to "I won't negotiate..."

another part that's not surprising, Ibama (has any president before ever used the words I, me, mine, etc more than he has?...no way) is more concerned with his legacy and signature legislation than he is with anything or anyone else. it's very roman emperor-like, let the people suffer until they see my way.

closing parks and bodies of water. these areas may be under federal oversight/supervision but they belong to the people. to do more than halting patrols, assistance, etc is nothing but a temper tantrum.

Only the human beings will be inconvenienced by the tantrum in the white house.
Leadership is unrelated to having ones way.

+1

rtribble, you seem to be so smart, perhaps you can explain to us less intelligent mortals how paying people to put up and wire shut barricades around open air monuments saves money?

Then you can explain how closing bus turn-around areas saves money.

Also, tell us how blocking off "senic vistas" saves us money.

Finally tell us how it makes sense to all of the above, while at the same time keeping open the golf courses where Obama plays golf...

And how do you save money by sending all the non essential folks home for weeks(?) and then paying them all later.. in full.

He can not help it Hogan. He still believes it is the Republicans fault. Can not say that I blame him as that is all I hear on the news too. In addition to Lake Powell they have closed parts of the Gulf of Mexico and now have patrols to make sure no one uses it. Dry Tortuga Park with patrols to make sure no one uses it. Watch Hill; closed. Badlands; closed. Yosemite; closed. Grand Canyon; closed. Mt Rushmore; closed. Naval Academy; closed. Base Commisaries; closed. Base religous buildings; closed. Andrews AFB Golf Course; OPEN

Only a matter of time until the interstates are closed

Why is Watch Hill closed? It is part of RI, not Federal. ... Or, at least I thought that.
