Was at the marina today, and I have to say they were going like hell. About 15 men were working hard from docks to roofs to all around repairs. It was really nice to see all the work that was going on. I guess the owner is really trying to make a come back. I hope the repairs continue for everyone.
Good luck SPBM, I'll watch from Haverstraw Marina. Who knows maby some day I'll be back when they have deep water.

Didn't a single worker when we were there today. Guess they went home early?

Looks like they have a VERY long way to go.

They where working hard when I was there as well! Even in the snow.

As I said before they are only fixing G and D dock and the service dock. That's all they expect to need right away. They are adding an extension on G dock to the left at the end. They are shortening the D dock where Audrey 2 was. Sorry Dave. There will be boats on G dock in april if the weather warms up. I know I will be. They are talking with the town about the restaurant. The rule is if it's more than 60% destroyed you can't rebuild. They may have to elevate it. They have an architect working with the town about this. The owners of the damaged houses by the river got a letter from the town recently saying if they want to rebuild they have to elevate it 8 feet. Ba Mar trailer park was told the same thing if they want to replace the destroyed trailers. SPBM and Patsy's docks took the worst hits from this storm. I think SPBM is making good progress all things considered. If you want to critisize SPBM for not dredging, critisize Patsy's also. He has the same low water.

What about the seawall at SPBM, it really took a beating!

It's on the list. It's going to take a while. Patsy's seawall is damaged also. It's going to take a couple of years for things to be back like they were before Sandy at both marinas.

Along with the missing sea wall sections if SPBM doesn't replace the docks where Curries boat was docked I'm thinking there will be a lot of rocking and rolling this year.

Patsy's been promising a new sea wall for years and I hope they finally bite the bullet. Lack of the sea wall is number one reason we left there. Loved the place other than that.

Just had a question pop in to my head. At SPBM D dock was last rebuilt using cement inside of wood decking. How well did the cement stuff hold up compared to regular wood decks? Did it hold up better?

Yes. It held up much better. The main snapped in two but other then that it is in reasonably good shape. I loved that cement dock. It was amazingly stable. The only issue was some panels did break every now and then but they had a stash of them already made and replaced them quickly when that happened.

The cement did fairly well however a section did split and turn out a bit overall the cement docks did pretty good!

I was wondering about the H dock as well I'm not sure what the plan is.

As far as Pasty's they installed a floating seawall it was done last year I'm really curious how well it worked I believe it was destroyed in the storm no surprise but how well did it function as a seawall? The concept seemed promising but I never heard any feed back.

I think the damage to the docks was so severe because the water got so high they floated over the pilings. If that didn't happen I think the docks would be ok. Never had an 11 foot tidal surge before. There may never be another or we might have one next month even higher. Don't know.

So the answer seems simple enough install tall pilings!

That's what worked at Liberty Landing. The pilings there are metal and very tall. The majority of the boat damage were those that decided to be pulled and floated of their stands.

No more hiding up river for us. Staying put next time.

Agree.

That's what my former marina did after a hurricane hit here years ago. I asked about the piling height and odds on the docks floating off in a hurricane. He told me slim to none and if they did I had bigger worries as my entire city would be 8' under water before the first dock started teetering!!

Was just down to SPBM. They can't work on the snow covered docks today, too slick, but they were working on the poolhouse. They are making progress doing what they can in this crummy weather.

I drove by today, they have made the end of G dock into a "T", adding slips to the north of it. Couple of guys were building docks on land.

You have to give them credit. I see more work going on there then many other places.

When you are a world class marina, isn't that expected?
