SPBM repairs

You have to give them credit. I see more work going on there then many other places.

Not me, PBM has completely rebuilt their store and offices, rebuilt their docks, is working on their electric, water and adding cable tv to the docks. They have worked non-stop all winter.

Patsy's has new docks lining the main driveway.

Haverstraw has rebuilt their gas dock, they were working on the north docks yesterday.

SPBM had two guys working yesterday. They have fixed ONE dock. To me, SPBM has done the least of any of the area marinas.

They have been working all winter and we cry we can't spring commission the boats because it is not worm I
Enough! What's wrong with this picture!!!

Ginny told me yesterday that are going to run cable lines to all the power posts on the docks.

How much are they planning to charge for cable? I would expect it for free! Sounds like they are looking for a way to nickle and dime you:)

Sorry, Dave, that's not the way Pennybridge treats its customers. They actually LOWERED their summer rate two years ago.

How much did they raise it this year to help pay for the repairs actually this probably won't kick in until next year being the prices were already set. I would not blaming them for raising their prices they need to recoup their investment!

I'm not knocking them I'm sure they are great people and a nice place to keep your boat but it is still a business and they need to made money to stay in business!

The G dock is almost finished. They are just about done with the water and electric. The service dock F dock is also just about done and the E dock at the ramp is in. D dock is next. The remains of C dock are coming out. Opening day is april 1. If that's not progress I don't know what is. I'll be in as soon as it warms up. Got to catch some stripers.

The big difference with PBM is they have always given us what we pay for. There are improvements made every year to some part of the marina unlike some of the others. Yes they are in it for a business but they do care about there customers. Some of the improvements Mike mentioned were already in the planning stage before the storm hit us. I can guarantee this, if and when our prices go up all the other marinas will as well.

Hey Dave I was at Haverstraw for 10 years. Had cable, it wasn't free nor did I expect it to be. We have Direct TV at PBM now, its OK, I just prefer cable and I don't expect Mike & Ginny to give it too me free. I don't mind paying for it. I pay for it in my home afterall, it's not included in my mortgage.

I know there are a lot of digs about Haverstraw being a "business". I was there 10 years...certainly shows I was happy. It is a great place with lots and lots of reasons to keep your boat there. I got a long well & liked all of the people I met there, including most transients, the office personel and management. I am still friendly with all mentioned. But there are differences. You are new there and happy as you should be, but at Haverstraw I had to pay for EVERYTHING. Dock box for example. Couldn't buy my own. Had to rent theirs for $120/month. Know how many dock boxes I could have bought in 10 years??? I own my box at PBM. Move a cleat? More money. PBM moves them wherever I want...no charge...and I drive them crazy. They will also come down from the yard and help out with little fix its...again...no charge. We all are in our respective marinas for different reasons and needs and those reasons and needs change as we do. I am not knocking anyone's marina, they all suit the needs of those who are there. I love Haverstraw & my time spent there and I totally appreciate it is a large marina with the overhead to go with it. It is a business. And who knows, I may end up back there some day. For now PBM, it's wood docks, smaller size, family atmosphere and terrific owners perfectly suit my needs. I still, 4 years later, get a kick out of being able to see my boatcfrom the parking lot!! I am very happy at PBM and for what my needs are right now, can't imagine being anywhere else.

Wow Judy, it took us ten years to convince you to come over? Talk about perserverance... We knew we had to have you the day you dropped your anchor on the dock...

Ah yes, the anchor drop on the dock. Remember it well....

OMG....that will NEVER go away!!! Yes, it was hysterical especially since Hogan was barefoot and it was oh so close!! But hey, you guys are the ones with years and years experience between ya's, so when I was told "drop anchor" well, I figured you two knew something I had yet to learn. ;)

Well said and there is no argument as some things work for some and some doesn't. We all have our priorities, likes and dislikes. One correction I like to make is the dock box is $120 a season not a year. That makes 2 dock boxes worth after 10 years of usage. Not so bad :-) $120 a month makes 1.5 dock boxes a season. :-) peace!!!

Oh crap, your right. I meant year not month!! I rarely open my computer anymore, mostly just use my phone...not quite the same and I don't always proof read what I wrote because it is kind of a PITA.

But it's not just the renting rather than owning the box. There's other issues. Like once when Marylou was out of town at a wedding. I had not yet paid for my dock box for the year, and was not aware of it. Come to my boat one day, dock box and ALL of it's contents were removed from my slip. Really? C'mon;, I've spent tens of thousands of dollarsover the years between dockage, maintainance, restaurant etc, never had to run me down for paymentand I'm gonna try to beat you out of a lousy $120. Had Marylou been there she would have called and we would have come right down and taken care of it. Or if I owned it.......

I also always had to lock my box, stuff missing all the time with being on a popular transient dock. I have a lock hanging on my PBM box just to keep the wind from blowing it open. I have never locked it, actually I dont even know where the key is. It's more of a business, business than a family owned business, that's all I'm saying. Not saying it's not a great place to keep your boat, it is. Only saying peoples situations and needs change.

That just never happened to me and Dave!!! lol i am the king of spelling errors :-)

That's just wrong!!!

I read somewhere there was an argument about the nicest boat etc... At some point this guy write "if it floats, it's fun!" End of argument. As long as we enjoy it doesn't matter where we are. Lets just keep having fun and be safe! :-)

The dock box thing was really the only time I got seriously angry at HM. your right, that was wrong, but it's not why I left. Honesty I just could no longer resist the charisma and charm of Butch & Mike....well Mike anyway. ;)

Nah, lol....it was just too big. Job was/is beating me up and I just wanted a smaller marina and shorter walk to my boat. HM is a great place to keep your boat as is PBM. they all have their plus & minus!!

Hope to have some raft-ups with you & your SPBM transplants this year!!!

As long as no one runs their benny all night...
