Just saw on local news channel where the TZ Bridge company rented 11 acres in Haverstraw where barges will come and go for staging the bridge. I did not recognize the land but could have been near Bowline. This could seriously change our summer if they plan on using the inside of Bowline.

They often confuse Haverstraw and Stony Point.

For those of you who live near there could that be near the Haverstraw library?

That's the property between Bowline pond and Civiles. The view shown it from the foot of main street to the left before you go down the hill. For several years bowline pond is probably going to be full of anchored barges and tugboats. One bright spot. They will most likely put in a buoy by the rockpile. It was nice while it lasted.

We may need a group of us to voice our opinion on this one. If in fact they are planning on using Bowline, there is no reason they can not leave barges moored up in the river. This of course is assuming they are planning on using Bowline but its bett to get in front of it and voice our concerns now.

You will be talking to the Coast Guard about your concerns. They have control over the river. Since the river is navigatable by commercial vessels the federal government is in control. Plus the bridge is being built mostly with federal money on an interstate. I don't think the Coast Guard commander of the port of NY is going to be concerned about some pleasure boaters losing their party anchorage. I'm going to miss it also. We swim in there when it's too rough to go to Croton Point.

Agree but so far it appears that the folks who are building the bridge have been at least pretending to listen to the concerns of the locals. It certainly can not hurt to investigate.

I think that is the old chair factory lot. It is in the area of where they shoot off the fireworks. If I am right they would have to work with the power plant to use bowline. I believe they have the water rights. Bowline is not navigational water. That's why there is no detail on any of the water charts for it.It would be the perfect spot for it and they cant use Haverstraw marina area like they did when the built the existing bridge. Time will tell and I personally hope the don't use it.

Several years ago the power plant got a huge piece of machinery. Way too big to truck in. A tug pushed a loaded barge in Bowline pond to the bulkhead on the left side of the building. Then riggers unloaded it and took it into the plant. Before they did that they marked the rockpile with a buoy. The building in there is the cooling water intake for the plant. The bridge company is probably going to build piers. Maybe they will get rid of the rock pile. I doubt if they have to ask anyones permission to use Bowline. The water intake cannot be obstructed however.

all during the constuction O&r had barges in and out. When they first started planning the plant they spent the summer doing soundings. That was back in the 60's. No GPs then. Blasting and sonar...

What they did several years ago was remove several new generators that were purchased years ago for the expansion of the plant that never happened. Those generators went down to s. carolina I think.

I know years ago when O&R was there we were going to put a marina in over by the ramp. We could not get enough support from the employees to go thru with it. That is why I believe that the new owners have the water rights. They are the ones that opened the inlet and put the existing channel in.

Bowline pond was opened to the river when the plant was built so the water intake could be in there so I was told. Being in there lessened the problem of debris clogging the intake screens.
