SPBM repairs

Word is, Panco is not re-opening.

Also, the Commander is not sailing this year.

WOW I guess the fuel dock is going to be very busy at Haverstraw this year!
Any idea what happen with the Commander? Was it damaged or just not profitable?

It will be interesting to see what happens with Panco. One would think they could not just abandon it without decommissioning it. Have Penny Bridge purchase the land for $1.00

What I don't understand is that all of the local marinas are working so hard to get their businesses back in order but it does not appear that many of them are doing anything different to help prevent damage from the next storm. All have the same height pilings etc. The one exception is the break wall at Haverstaw where it appears that they have increased the height by 4 feet and the redesign of the fuel dock.

Penny Bridge installed Steel pilings on our wave dock. They have about 12' above high tide and 2 feet above where Sandys peak was. With there being steel they can also add additional height. There was suppose to be more height but they went deeper than planned.

That sounds like a great plan for the wave dock. Overall, in my observations most docks in most marinas are putting docks back on pilings that they floated off of during Sandy. Putting any docks back on the same pilings that they floated off in the last storm is a scary proposition.

Why do you all think that we can have another storm? Just because we had 2 of them the last two years and an early snow storm and last year winter was record high in temperature and this year winter was record low and very long winter!!! Doesn't mean a thing...
On a serious note what is panco?

Saw a scary thing on the news, they are predicting 8 hurricans this season and 4 could be worse than Sandy and 48% chance hitting east coast.

It's a good thing there will be two new boats behind me to help protect me from these impending storms!

Oh, Allen Panco is the only other local fuel dock in the area.

There is no "decommissioning", it's just the gas dock that is not re-opening.

So I guess they will still be selling home heating oil to the local towns.

Yes, no change in that end of the business.

OK...I have to throw this out there and I mean no disrespect to any of our local marinas...Aside from Haverstraw, SPBM is way ahead of most all other marinas in the area that were effected by the storm. And of course, they are the only one with 2 pages on their repairs.

They have also done the smallest scope of work. All they are repairing is two docks "D" & "G" - how many slips is that?

PBM & Patsy's are rebuilding their entire marinas, including their offices which were destroyed. SPBM has completely abandonned the entire north marina! How many slips did SPBM have before the storm, how many will they have this season?

How many boats have left SPBM because of the lack of repairs compared to how many have left PBM & Patsy's?

The answer to that question speaks volumes!

Two separate topics on people leaving and status of repairs which i commented on to start with and I believe the are 30 plus pages to review on that issue. I would say that SPBM has more slips ready for use today then either of the others you mentioned. In my opinion getting boaters into the water is priority number one for any marina and say what you want, SPBM is ahead of them.
